Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the founder and father of the nation of Bangladesh. He was the leader of the Bengali nationalist movement that fought for the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan. He is widely regarded as the greatest Bengali of all time.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born on 17 March 1920 in Tungipara, Gopalganj. He completed his education in Kolkata and Dhaka. He joined the Awami League, a political party that advocated for the rights and autonomy of East Pakistan. He became the president of the party in 1966 and launched the Six-Point Movement, a set of demands for greater political and economic freedom for East Pakistan.

He declared the independence of Bangladesh on 26 March 1971, after a brutal crackdown by the Pakistani army on unarmed civilians. He was arrested and taken to West Pakistan, where he was kept in solitary confinement for nine months.

The war ended on 16 December 1971, when Pakistan surrendered and Bangladesh emerged as a sovereign nation. He initiated various reforms and development programs to rebuild the war-torn country. He also established diplomatic relations with many countries and joined international organizations such as the United Nations and the Non-Aligned Movement. He was a champion of peace and democracy in the world.
However, his rule faced many challenges and oppositions from internal and external forces. He was assassinated along with most of his family members by a group of army officers on 15 August 1975, in a coup d’état that plunged the country into chaos and dictatorship.
